Graphic Design Portfolio

Adobe CS Experience:

I am proficient in the Adobe Creative Suite 4 programs: InDesign, Dreamweaver, Photoshop and Illustrator. I am also highly experienced in the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Below are some examples of my work using Adobe products.

InDesign Experience:

I have designed 13 issues of the Narragansett Bay Journal for both online and print editions using InDesign. Because many of the articles were contributed by partner organizations, each article was designed as a stand-alone piece as well as incorporated into the full Issue using partial page breaks and "continued on page..."  Each issue was emailed to subscribers using Constant Contact. The newsletter emails I designed contained a brief description and photo for each article and a link to the full article.

My favorite article I wrote was a piece titled "Urban Nature in Art" in which I showcased several local artists who use trash and found materials in their artwork to express the encroachment of modern technology in our natural environments. " Some artists see the natural world as their canvas, creating a statement about societal issues using natural elements such as driftwood, stones and plants. Others make statements about the natural world using man-made elements such as plastics, metals and found debris." (excerpt from the article)

For a complete list of articles I contributed to the Narragansett Bay Journal, please visit my publications page.

Please visit my Event Outreach page and Outreach for ANEP page for some examples of other communication products I have created.

Illustrator Experience:

In Rhode Island, summers are spent going to the beach and enjoying our public spaces. Unfortunately, many people living in the impoverished communities in areas such as Providence, Woonsocket and Central Falls, beach days are not so common. One reason could be lack of transportation, another, lack of money to pay the parking and beach-going fees.

In 1989, the Governor inaugurated the annual Bay Day celebration in which every state beach would be free and open to the public. Several beaches have taken the celebration one step further and host an event with food, music and activities for the public.

In 2013, the Narragansett Bay Estuary Program designed an urban Bay Day event at India Point in Providence. We had live music, food and several environmental organizations had tables and booths with activities for children and adults. We wanted this event to stand out from the rest, so we created a logo that would speak to the whole event and celebrate Rhode Island's heritage. I used Adobe Illustrator to design the logo and promotional materials.

Photoshop Experience:

It is difficult to do any graphic design work without using Photoshop at all. Retouching and resizing images is best accomplished in Photoshop. Having said that, there is little I can present that does not include my Photoshop capabilities. I am working on designing a logo for the Center For Ecosystem Restoration and will update this page with the final product. Which brings me to my web design experience.

Dreamweaver and Web Design Experience:

The Narragansett Bay Estuary Program website was designed by working closely with a local web developer. Together we designed the new website so I could maintain and update it using Dreamweaver. While in the initial stages of design, I looked into several different web design software, including WordPress, Squarespace and Google Blogger (which this website is designed through). I later reviewed Wix and found that program very easy to work with.

I designed the Environmental Status and Trends of the Narragansett Bay Region using Squarespace, and am currently working on redesigning the Center for Ecosystem Restoration website using the latest version.

If you would like to see more work in specific areas, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Artwork

I have always been an artistic person - looking at things from a different perspective - finding ways to create something beautiful and intriguing, out of the resources I have around me. Over the years I have collected paints, canvases, brushes, glues and more pens and pencils than I care to count. I have combed every beach I've visited, saved every special card, trinket and box. If there is ever a decorating project, or an inspiration sparks, I have all the tools I need to take a crack at creating it!

Over the years I have tried to take photos of the gifts I make for people before I give it to them so I can have a record of what I have done. I figure its time to share my artwork with the rest of the public. So I have compiled a few here. I hope you enjoy!

Dreamcatcher: Background stained in blackberries,
painted with acrylic. For my dear friend and former neighbor JoJo.

Kitty N' Fish: Acrylic on canvas with Heavy Gel finish.
(Unfortunately, this is not the complete version)
This was made for a dear friend, Kitty.

Paint-by-Numbers Lighthouse Clock: Clock kit,
Paint-by-Numbers kit and shadow box.
Wedding gift for a wonderful couple; Tim & April

Zombie Table: This is an old workbench from a friend.
My husband wanted it; I said the only way I would allow it
is if I repainted it. See below for the results!

Zombie Table: Zombie Defense Station.
The slightly darker edges are actually chalkboard paint to allow
for keeping notes and such.

Zombie Table: Underneath it all...
I just had to give it my own little touch! I used some stencils
to make the leaves and my own creativity to create the rest.
Now we both love the table!
Musical Christmas Ornament and Gift Box set:
Plastic ornament, paint, parchment and old box.
Made for my Boss - keep on playing Rich!

Dancing Fairy: This was painted using a 5x7 paint-by-numbers
canvas, which actually had a ballerina instead of the fairy.
Inspired by another dear friend.
Origami art can be a great stress reliever!
I have used many other mediums including beadwork, wire weaving, photography, woodworking, ceramics, clothing... I would also consider cooking an art form, but I will leave that to a later post.

I enjoy creating art. And I have been itching to make more. If you have any comments, questions, or would like to commission some artwork, feel free to send me a message!

Event Outreach

I have been using Constant Contact for outreach purposes since 2006. Since then, I have found a number of other excellent resources for creating eye-catching media blasts. I enjoy learning how these new applications work and making the most out of free or inexpensive web-based software. Although much of the work shown in my portfolio is done in InDesign CS4.

Outreach for ANEP

As the Administrative Assistant for the Association of National Estuary Programs, I assisted the Deputy Director in planning the annual meetings, developing the outreach material for Program visits to Capitol Hill, and preparing progress reports on grants. The following is a sample of the work I have done for ANEP over the years. For more samples of my work with ANEP, please contact me directly by visiting my contact page.
